Makin’ Apple Cake
We tried out a new recipe this Christmas. It was a little ironic because the recipe is supposed to be a Hannukah recipe. Anyways…we tried our hands at making Apple Cake.

Well, it happened. One of our old junk buckets from 1994 finally gave out. Nathaniel’s Mazda is no longer with us. Now we have a nice shiny 2007 Mazda6!

We visited Raven Rock State Park on June 20th. The park is about an hour south of Raleigh near Lillington, NC.
Dell used to be a decent company. What happened? Grace got a Dell Photo 924 printer as a present a few years ago. It’s a rebranded Lexmark X615 (I have heard, but obviously nobody is confirming this!) It doesn’t have drivers for GNU/Linux (or Mac). It’s described as an expensive paperweight by some people, and accurately too. To get to the point, the power adapter went bad on it, so I thought I would get a new one and sell it so that we could have one that works on GNU/Linux. To my surprise, the new adapter from Dell is $50.
Would you rather have your kids see a movie with (possibly explicit) scenes of people killing each other, or with (again, possibly explicit) scenes of people making love to each other? Think about it. I’m not the first to ask this question, and I hope I’m not the last.
I just found about a site that is great for book readers. It lets you keep track of, rate, and find new books to read. You can see my profile here. It’s kind of like something you might find on Facebook, but for those of us who don’t use Facebook it’s nice. There is also a way to add a plugin to Wordpress, but I haven’t quite gotten that set up yet.
There’s more than one way to skin a cat, and there are at least four ways to set up dual monitors in GNU/Linux.
I don’t believe options 2 and 4 are really options for me since I do not like the idea of paying for a video card and not being able to use it freely. I will describe my setup and include my xorg.conf as well, for Fedora 10. I’m hoping that it will also work for Ubuntu, and I’ll post on that ASAP.
Today I sat down and pondered what gifts to get my wife. I realize that one of two things is going on.
It’s probably a combination of both. I look around at the way we live, and I see no reason to panic over the recession we’re in. We’ve got it so good, and by most people’s standards we are struggling to get by!
So, one of the things I plan to do this season is just give to a couple of organizations I’ve been meaning to support, but haven’t yet supported. Here are a few that could use some help if you’ve got a few extra dollars. I may add more as I think of them.
