Nathaniel

I am a 29 year-old student at NC-State University; I just started the Ph.D. program in mathematics in fall 2008. Here is the statement of purpose that got me in. I also just graduated (spring 2008) from VCU with a major in Math and Computer Science. My primary interests are pure mathematics (algebra), free and open-source software, GNU/Linux and web design. I have a website at NCSU where I have some tutorials on LaTeX, plus my teaching stuff.

I’m not looking for work, but here is my resume anyway.

Last summer I worked with Dr. Chan and Dr. Dyer from the department of math and the department of biology, respectively, on an NSF grant. The purpose was to model pollen dispersion. I also did the research for undergraduate students through the Honors College. In November 2007 I presented my research at the TIMBER conference at the Appalachian State University. During the spring and summer of 2008 I continued my work on the project as an independent study and just for the sake of closure.

I used to work for the VCU T/TAC as their website support person.

Activities

I’m a student member of the Free Software Foundation.

Racquetball

The only sport that I take seriously is racquetball. I’ve been playing for about 3 years, and when I was younger I played too. I intend to play basketball at NCSU.

I enjoy watching the VCU Rams Basketball team.
